German car maker BMW has achieved record quarterly earnings, reaching a net income of $1.2 billion, a rise of 80% on the previous year. BMW said the number of cars sold in the first three months also represented a new high, leading the company to predict a very good year for 2006. Lexus has the most user-friendly Web site for new-vehicle shopping among auto manufacturers, according to the latest survey of automaker Web sites by J.D. Power and Associates.

2007 BMW Z4 and Z4 M Coupe February 13, 2006
The BMW Z4 Coupe was first shown in concept form at last fall’s Frankfurt show, but we now have official photos of the production car going on sale in June of this year. As the name implies, it’s a Z4 roadster with a stationary roof. The fixed top makes it stiffer and lighter, so it should be a better driver and a viable track toy, a use hinted at by roof bulges perhaps intended to accommodate helmet-wearing occupants.
